Katrina Ennamorato wasn't simply going to create a box from lovely solid walnut wood, for the material and the nature of the object afforded the opportunity to make the Piega Cabinet more interesting than that. Inspired by folded paper, the designer used sloped lines, beveled edges and overlapping surfaces to give the little console a great deal more dimension.
Standing upon four little legs, the vaguely cubic chest of drawers comes to resemble a cardboard crate. The consistent formal suggestions of crumpling has the Piega Cabinet resembling a buckling box, with areas where the flaps even fail to meet. It's these very gaps that serve as the pulls for the drawers, providing the user with easy access inside. The idiosyncratic and sculptural nightstand embodies superior quality as well, with built-in wooden tracks to make the item durable.
