Photosynthesis by Akihisa Hirata is Designed with Green Energy

Legacy is the theme for this year's Milan Design Week, and 'Photosynthesis' by Akihisa Hirata is the perfect definition for this overarching motif. Japanese architect Hirata joined forces with Panasonic technologies to create a solar-powered installation located at the Interni Pavilions.

The project centers on the creation of an artificial miniature energy system that sets an example for architecture in the future, in hopes of powering society with solar energy. Nature was the inspiration behind Hirata's project, and the solar panels act as leaves while the surrounding lamps and light fixtures act as fruits and flowers.

"The project was inspired by a reflection on the natural relationship that exists in a tree between its leaves, fruits and flowers, a truly interdependent cyclical ecosystem in miniature," says Hirata.
