Rodolfo Cañas Designs the Paire House in Pomaire

Architect Rodolfo Cañas designs a large house in Chile dubbed the Paire house and it was made with inspiration from the biblical tale of Jonah and the Whale. The house surrounds two gardens and is located in Pomaire, which is a rural town outside of Santiago. It is made to protect and provide shelter against outside elements, various weather, and its surroundings.

Rodolfo Cañas explains that "In some ways, the Paire House can be comparable to the whale that protected Jonah during the storm. In a rural, dry, rugged environment and also close to a highway with a heavy traffic flow, this house works as a container; a protective body, which separates its inhabitants from the hostile environment and makes them look towards a more sheltered interior."
