Luminous Seesaw Installations

This Outdoor Art Exhibit Features Dozens of Glowing Seesaws

A team of Canadian artists recently designed an outdoor art exhibit that consists of 30 illuminated seesaws. This time of year, many Canadian cities are plagued by freezing temperatures and long periods of darkness. This installation offers a new winter experience by encouraging residents to embrace the darkness.

The luminous seesaw exhibit was developed as part of a collaboration between Toronto's 'Lateral Office,' Montreal's 'CS Design' and the engineering firm 'EGP Group.' These designers came together to install 30 glowing seesaws of varying sizes in Montreal's 'Place des Festivals.' Each seesaw is equipped with LED lights and speakers. Both the sound and the intensity of the lights changes as the users move up and down. As the organizers explain, the movement of several seesaws at once creates "a harmonious sequence of sounds and lights, resulting in a constantly evolving ephemeral composition."

The creative outdoor art exhibit is designed to give Montrealers a new way to enjoy the long winter months.
