Sprawling Faux Flower Installations

Ottmar Horl's 1,000 Roses for Zweibrücken Lays Out Buds

Ottmar Horl's 1,000 Roses for Zweibrücken exhibit is located within Germany's Zweibrücken region. The installation was made in the image of The Rose Garden of Princess Hildegard of Bavaria which was home to 2,000 different varieties of roses.

Just as its title suggests, Horl ensured that 1,000 roses were laid out in rows for an entire month. In place of real flowers however were the fake variety, ensuring their ability to last throughout the month.

At the heart of Horl's project is his will to foster community ties in Zweibrücken, and to hopefully spark discussion amongst those who view the 1,000 Roses set, "Above and beyond its symbolic power, the rose thus becomes a 'social sculpture' in the sense of a stimulant for communication."
