The Olen hotel by Ateno Architecture Studio is a seven-suite resort built into a rocky coastal hillside on the Greek island of Syros. The project places much of the structure within the terrain rather than building a large form above the landscape. Ateno Architecture Studio organized the resort as a sequence of terraces and carved volumes that step down the slope toward the Aegean Sea. The layout unfolds gradually across the cliff while maintaining views of the surrounding coastline.
The resort is divided into three areas named The Plane, The Line, and The Point, connected by a winding path descending the hillside. The upper terrace includes shared spaces, a pool, and a pergola structure, while guest rooms are embedded deeper into the slope. Retaining walls and textured render surfaces define the architecture and reflect the surrounding rock tones. Lower suites open onto terraces with an elongated infinity pool facing the sea.
