The NOXX Hotel Marburg restores and reinvents a disused Deutsche Bahn rail depot through a spirited architectural transformation. The existing brick depot provides a grounded historical base, while a new six-storey insert of dark composite panels rises above, bridging past and present. Architects and interior studio Aberja organized the public spaces to flow across the ground floor, fusing lobby, dining, and event areas into an expansive ground-level sequence. The guest rooms occupy the inserted upper floors, each framed for views out to Marburg’s cityscape and sloping topography.
Color plays a key role in the reinterpretation. The designers selected a bold red hue as a connective gesture to the original brick, echoing it in elements like shelving, seating, and architectural accents. Industrial references surface in mesh partitions that layer zones like theatrical drapery and in steel detailing that nods to rail infrastructure. Beyond form and finish, NOXX achieves high energy performance.
