The new work by Zimoun, an artist based in Bern, Switzerland, solidifies his manic brilliance. Like his past work, these installations involve hypnotic soundscapes that demonstrate how art involves more than just sight. Comprised of three exciting installations, he pushes boundaries to show that even the most mundane objects and actions can be captivating.
The first sculpture involves 198 prepared dc-motors and wire isolated, cardboard boxes. When in motion, it sounds like rain falling. The boxes are put into a perfect grid-like pattern. The second installation works with 318 motors, cork balls and cardboard boxes to create a deeper, more methodological sound. Lastly, his third is more experimental. It revolves around 60 medical infusion sets, water, fire and metal sheets for an eerie hissing noise. Overall, the new work by Zimoun is astounding.
