Zina Saro-Wiwa’s Op-Doc Features Black Women Who Embrace Their Kinks

Zina Saro-Wiwa’s op-doc looks at black women who are transitioning from chemically straightened hair to embracing their natural kink. The movement also send a strong political message by demonstrating self-acceptance and refusing to conform to societal standards, just because it is perceived as being "the better thing to do."

Many women who are going through the journey or who have already completed their journey, have all learned to love their curls, it’s best stated as "a movement characterized by self-discovery and health." The underlying message of this revolution is not to start a war with Eurocentric ideals, but rather to be accepting of what was given naturally.

Zina Saro-Wiwa’s op-doc is inspirational for all women out there who may be struggling with accepting themselves as they are. With all the pressure to conform to certain standards, it’s nice to see women who are standing their ground.
