The Museum of Broken Relationships recently debuted in Toronto to commemorate the end of relationships and celebrate lost love. The installation includes various objects that depict a couple's breakup such as cracked mugs with the words Love You engraved on it, incomplete crosswords from a lover who died, bridal wear from a now-single woman, and other emotion-filled articles. Each item includes a handwritten note that explains their story.
The museum was first unveiled in Croatia in 2006 by artists Drazen Grubisic and Olinka Vistica who had recently broken up. The duo wanted to commemorate their 4-year relationship with an installation that displayed some of their special memories. The Museum of Broken Relationships has been shown in over 50 cities and it now gains its treasures through donations from locals that represent a break up they have gone through.
Individuals can visit the museum for free at Harborfront -- 235 Queens Quay W Toronto, ON M5J 2G8 -- until September 8, 2019.
