Commissioned by a family to build a dwelling called MR House that will have two separate areas for different functions, local Chilean studio MAPA has taken inspiration from local building techniques in creating the home using two sheds. The house is located in the Andes mountains, in the El Buchén area in Chile.
Taking inspiration from local sheds nearby, the exterior is a polished black facade fitted with a bright red door as the entrance. On one side is the public areas that consist of the living room, the kitchen and the dining room. The other side of the home houses the bathrooms and the bedrooms.
"We chose to build two smaller sheds inside the larger one, which grouped the bedrooms on one hand and the bathrooms on the other. These differ in color and materiality from the rest of the construction," says Cristian Larrain.
