Designer Josh Bittelli Creates 3D Objects with a Welding Gun

British designer Josh Bitelli creates 3D objects by dripping blobs of steel out of a welding gun. Bitelli uses a MIG welder conventionally used to connect metal components with melted metal wire.

Bitelli draws coils of metal that eventually build up into 3D objects. Using this method, Bitelli makes renditions of everyday objects. Because Bitelli doesn't make use of any moulds, each piece is unique. Some of the objects Bitelli created include candle holders, cups, vases and tea pots.

According to Bitelli the process of 3D printing disconnects people from their designs. Using his method the process becomes more intuitive; Bitelli thinks, "In this way every object has a narrative and, as with weaving, the process does not specify the form but sets the parameters."
