Mirror Culture by Ignatov Architects Embraces Soon-to-Be Obsolete

First it was the common cassette, which is not so common anymore, and now artists are focusing on the compact disc as Mirror Culture by Ignatov Architects, a Bulgaria-based mobile architectural firm, shows. It is an outdoor art installation that can be likened to a flag of surrender. Shining CDs have been strung together to take on the form of a large banner.

Mirror Culture by Ignatov Architects is an interactive piece that was created with the help of 128 volunteers. Erected in the city of Varna's local tourist attraction Sea Garden, its oldest and best known public park, the flexible sculpture moves with the wind, creating a rainbow of changing color with every sway. Borislav Ignatov says, "It was my fascination with the play of light on fish scales and on liquid surfaces that made me think of a flexible mirror."
