This City Imagery by Mattia Mognetti Plays With Perception

The "Istigkeit" image series by Mattia Mognetti plays with perception thanks to the artist's use of kaleidoscopic visuals and mirrored photo techniques. Made to resemble mental landscapes, this kaleidoscopic architecture photography by Mattia Mognetti constructs an altered view of reality and pays tribute to futuristic literature of 'Brave New World' author Aldous Huxley.

Quoting Huxley, the word "Istigkeit" refers to "a state of alienation produced by mescalin, a substance that induces a contemplation which is incompatible with action". Photographer Mognetti’s abstracted architecture depictions are captured in black and white and blur the lines of art classification.

The photographs are striking in a set but also stand alone as powerful art pieces that are reminiscent of complex M. C. Escher illustrations. The visually vivid image series is made up of various photo fragments of famous buildings captured in Milan.
