The Matthew Shlian Creations are Incredibly Surreal

The Matthew Shlian paper creations are incredibly surreal. Shlian considers himself a paper engineer, due to his ability to create such dynamic and intricate pieces.

At first glance, one would not assume that these sculptures are made out of paper -- they look as if they could be made out of clay. The amazing part of it all is that he doesn't plan the designs ahead of time, he simply creates each piece on a whim. The artist states on his site, "I begin with a system of folding and at a particular moment the material takes over. Guided by wonder, my work is made because I cannot visualize its final realization; in this way I come to understanding through curiosity."

These beautiful handcrafted pieces would make for beautiful home decor.
