Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects Designed This Stable Residence

This elongated waterfront house was designed by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects. The purpose of the structure was to create a living space that could resist harsh weather, heavy waves and prevent flooding. Since the home rests at the edge of the water, the structure must be stable and protected from high tides and rocky water during storms.

The beautiful home is located on a sea shore in Nova Scotia, Canada and the long, narrow structure was built upon the rock mass beneath it. A series of parallel concrete slabs hold up the house and prevent it from flooding. With all the protection the house gets from harsh weather, one would assume the view of the ocean would be compromised, but the result is on the contrary.

Large glass windows and a picture frame-shaped opening under the house allows for a spectacular view of the seascape around it. You'll never see a sunset more beautiful than the ones this house provides. MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects masterfully designed a home that is both safe and inspiring.
