Greenery-Sheathed Libraries

This Library Building Features Generous Plantings Of Native Species

The upcoming Columbia Library building located in Columbia, Maryland is set to function as a prime example of the utility of greenery both to enhance the visitor experience in public spaces as well as provide advantages in the form of insulation.

Designed by none other than Heatherwick Studio, this particular library building features an exterior that is considerably sheathed in greenery, with the rooftop terrace no different in this regard. Elsewhere, the building features a cascading design that enables it to host several terraces, which are all enriched with the use of plant species that are native to the region.

"The facade will seamlessly join with the surrounding public park and lakefront thus becoming an integral part the community's natural gathering and relaxation place," Heatherwick Studio noted regarding the building, which is expected to open to the public in 2027.
