Lace Sensor Dresses Play a Sound Recording of a Poem

Designers Anja Hertenberger and Meg Grant have created a collection of Lace Sensor Dresses that are beautiful, literally! These dresses, composed of custom-made conductive lace made of cotton and conductive metallic yarns, are embroidered with a poem and will produce a sound recording of that poem, emitted through tiny crocheted speakers, when certain gestures are made by the wearer.

There are three different Lace Sensors Dresses, with each requiring a different gesture to trigger the poetry recording. The first dress is Emma, which features a poem about physical labor and aching bones; the poem will play when the wearer massages her neck while holding her right wrist, says Fashioning Tech. When the dress Pat is worn and the wearer stands with her hands on her hips, the poem that is played tells about gaining independence by learning a new skill. Finally, the last dress of the Lace Sensors Dresses series is Sian, which requires the wearer to hug herself to play the poem, one about death and memory.

The Lace Sensor Dresses are currently on display in Vienna at the TechnoSensual exhibition.
