Kodai Iwamoto Unveils Striking New PARI PARI Collection

Japanese designer Kodai Iwamoto has unveiled the PARI PARI collection, an assortment of high-end wood furniture made using an ancient Japanese technique called Hego. The concise capsule includes a dining table, side table, and shelves, all featuring a unique striation design that combines yellow and black colors with a natural wood finish.

Hego was traditionally used to create wooden shingles and involves using a machete -- rather than a machine -- to cut logs into planks. The technique allows the wood to be cut thin while maintaining its surface appearance and feel. In addition, it prevents the warping associated with machine cutting.

For the PARI PARI collection, Iwamoto used the method to create thin sheets of colored wood, which he then glued together to create uniquely patterned and textured pieces.
