The Lowry is currently featuring a series of kinetic art exhibitions that focus on everyday objects that are transformed into art pieces. One piece in the exhibit by Karina Smigla-Bobinski is a unique and interactive sculpture that creates a sensory experience for audiences.
'ADA' is inspired by Ada Lovelace, the first person to program a computer and is essentially a large clear ball filled with helium and covered with spikes of charcoal. The ball is left to roam freely in a plain white room and can be bounced and played with by visitors. This kinetic art exhibition allows its visitors to personalize a space by moving its sculpture until charcoal imprints cover its surrounding walls.
Starting out with a blank slate, visitors play with the installation to add their person touch. The imaginative, interactive art piece results in a large, abstract black and white mural.
