Mountain-Mimicking Art Centers

The Kimball Art Center in Park City Has a Natural Look

The Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah, has finally received approval for the design set forth by BIG Architects. Although the initial proposal was put forth in 2011, some updates were needed before going through with the building.

The new design features a sloping roof that is meant to mimic the surrounding mountains. Since the art gallery is set in a picturesque town where so many people come for the skiing alone, it makes sense to try and blend the architecture with the beautiful landscape. Inside the rooms are very spacious, allowing people to wander throughout the gallery halls and take in the pieces of artwork. Other than the large window that wraps around the front and two corners of the building, most of the material used consists of wood. Photo Credits: designboom, kimballartcenter.org
