Berlin-based architecture and design studio J.Mayber H. has won the competition to design the Jubilee Pavilion for the 300th year anniversary of the founding of German city Karlsruhe. The temporary pavilion will be used to host exhibitions and events from now until 2015. The pavilion is located in Schlosspark where the castle gardens is made up of 32 streets and avenues and is a network of criss crossed beams of timber and is slanted at an angle. The architects wanted to reference the iconic castle gardens that are located in the heart of the city and are famous for the radial urban plan; the result is a three-dimensional structured latticework angled to face the heart of the city.
"The twisted pattern of the pavilion refers to the strictly geometric-radial lay out of the Baroque-planned city of Karlsruhe with the castle as the focal point, transforming it into a spatial field of lines," says the architects.
