Jörg Gläscher Uses Dead Branches to Sculpt Forest Waves

Nine massive wooden waves sculpted by Jörg Gläscher take over a forest floor near Hamburg, Germany. Inspired by the pandemic, this installation channels Jörg Gläscher's own fear of the second wave of COVID-19 in Germany. The artist explains his thought process: "I was working (with the idea of) the pure power of nature, the all-destroying force, which brings one of the richest countries in the world to a completely still stand."

The artist gathered dead branches to construct his pieces in a secluded forest. The largest wave sculpture spans four meters high and nine meters wide, overtaking the forest floor with undulating layers of wood. Each wave was photographed upon completion and promptly destroyed to reuse the material for other sculptures.
