The Iorram cottage is a one-bedroom structure located in Plockton -- it was designed by Baillie Baillie Architects in the Scottish Highlands. The space is great as both a home and a holiday vacation for the studio's founders. The vision of the home was a modern interpretation of the traditional cottages that are found in the same location, which are often known as crofters cottages or as black houses.
Co-founder of Baillie Baillie Architects, Colin Baillie shared with Dezeen, "We wanted Iorram to communicate the value of craftsmanship, locally sourced timber, and the inherent quality and calmness that natural materials bring to a space.
Doing our own self-build project was an opportunity for us to explore a distinctly Scottish approach to natural material. The use of deep load-bearing walls, with a lighter-weight timber structure within, reflects traditional construction methods in the Highlands of Scotland."
