These illuminated insect pictures are quite interesting. The project, by Amsterdam-based studio KNOL, blows the tiny insect world up and projects it for all to see using basic lighting and mirrors.
When you look at the full image for these insect habitats, they look much bigger than they actually are. In reality, the habitats are much smaller adaptations of village houses.
The compelling thing about this exhibit is that on one end of the spectrum the bugs are small and when one views the exhibit they see the miniature insects, it’s the act of looking down on those smaller than them. On the other hand, because of the illuminated insect projections, they are drawn into a world much different than theirs. The transparency of the homes allows viewers to see the insects fully and understand how they interact with their surroundings.
