The Animal Hide Iberico Lamp Mimics the Form of Spanish Ham

It's rare that food influences the look fixtures around the house, and possibly all the more unusual for such pieces to be rendered realistically. The Iberico Lamp is an example of such an object, physically referencing the form and even the materiality of its edible inspiration.

Hanging from a bit of rope, a cut of Iberian ham is what you'll recognize. The odd sculpture incites images of butchers' windows and the pantries of rural Portugal and Spain. What designer Alberto Gorgojo did was take a piece of translucent goat's skin to cover the lightbulb and thick opaque cow hide to surround the fixture. The Iberico Floor Lamp is supported by a hidden metal brace that's threaded through the plaited cord.
