Naturally Ventilated Apartments

This Housing Block Features Open-Air Spaces

Japenese firm Makoto Yamaguchi Design has completed the 'Oggi' housing block, a three-storey structure located on a family-owned corner plot in Tokyo. What makes this building stand apart is the 12 open-air rooms, which enhance natural light and ventilation.

There are seven apartments within, three of which are located on the ground floor. The other four are allocated over the two upper levels. The open rooms, as the architects refer to them, are scattered throughout each floor. Though they are protected by the roof, each room features a window without glazing.

The rooms are intended as an exploration of indoor and outdoor spaces; however, they also provide the residents with a naturally-lit area to use in the spirit of play.
