Melting Wax Houses

London's House of Wax is Slowly Melting Away

Artist Alex Chinneck has created 'A pound of flesh for 50p', a full-sized two-storey home that is built primarily out of wax bricks, and as a result if slowly and spectacularly melting away. The house was created for the Bankside Merge Festival taking place in London.

8,000 paraffin wax bricks were used to construct the building. The bricks were cast in terra cotta sand to make them look like regular bricks. The structure's windows are also made out of wax panes. The melting of the bricks and windows is being sped up by hand-held torches, which can be used to manipulate the melting effect in different and striking ways.

This curious house of wax will be in place till November 18, and which point its only remnants will comprise a roof on top of a massive pile of melted wax.
