As everyone knows, Mexico and Switzerland enjoy an incredibly close diplomatic relationship, and the House of Switzerland Pavilion in Mexico City honors the friendship between the two nations.
Designed by Dellekamp Arquitectos, a Mexican firm, the pavilion was commissioned to honor the seventieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During that time, the nations have forged a lasting friendship, with Switzerland sending Mexico abundant watches and Toblerone bars while the Latin American country returned those lavish exports with tequila and Gruma-brand tortillas.
In terms of design, House of Switzerland features a stilted timber roof punctured with triangular gaps that form starry shapes overhead. It has two tiers, and the lofted space is accessible via an angular staircase. The pavilion serves as an informal public space and meeting area.
