High Tech Fiber Facades

Morphosis Employs a Fiber Used for Bulletproof Vests & Aircraft Parts

Design studio Morphosis works alongside award-winning architect Thom Mayne and Korean textile manufacturer Kolon on the development of a high tech fiber facade. Part of the Kolon One & Only Tower — a new research facility in Seoul, the folded facade is aesthetically pleasing and incredibly functional.

The team used Aramid as the main component of the building's exterior. The design presents an "interconnected sunshade system." The high tech fiber is known to be extremely durable with "five times the tensile strength of iron."

Aside from this, Morphosis ensures that Kolon's new research facility answers to standards of sustainability. As a result, the architectural firm employs solar panels, recycled materials where appropriate, green roofs, as well as a bubble deck technology.
