New Heart Patch Technology Helps Repair Damage from Attacks

Something of a cyborg heart patch has been developed by researchers to help blend human cells and electronics to create an implantable way to save a life.

The damage causes by heart attacks or disease can render a person in need of a heart transplant. The waiting list for a donor heart, however, is often so long that a person could pass before having access to a suitable transplant.

This new heart patch technology allows doctors to potentially forego transplant surgery and repair the heart of the patient in a quicker, less invasive way. The patch was created by professor Tal Dvir and Ron Reiner at the Tel Aviv University. The breakthrough technology can also be monitored remotely to ensure proper functionality.
