The Haus in Schwarz, which means 'House in Black' in German, wasn't always, well, black. Instead, it was painted so in a bid of farewell to the building, which has since been demolished. Once used as a canvas for numerous street artists, the ominous exterior was created as a way to symbolize the end of something great while also heralding a space for something new.
Created by artists Erik Sturm and Simon Jung, the Haus in Schwarz was located in the city center of Möhringen, Germany. Although its final state still haunts the street view in Google Maps, the owner, art gallery manager Karin Abt-Straubinger, has since built a new gallery. It is only appropriate that the area still embraces art even if it saw the destruction of some.
