Shredded Flower Installations

Artist Gyun Hur Creates Astounding Large-Scale Patterns

At first glance, especially when viewed from afar, people may mistake the work of Gyun Hur for large-scale paintings. That is because what they really are constructed out of is something incredibly unorthodox. Made out of shredded artificial flowers that end up taking the form of colorful dust, the relatively simple works take on a whole new meaning.

Based in Atlanta, Gyun Hur artfully arranges her materials as though they were still flowers. Of course, instead of bouquets, Gyun Hur shapes them into minimalist, geometric patterns. Equipped with tweezers, masking tape, and a ruthlessly meticulous attention to detail, Gyun Hur writes, "Narratives of labor, loss, and place are vital elements in [these] constructions [...]. Through the menial process of making, [choice] collections of found objects transform into a poignant residuum of the past and the present."
