Digital ad agency firstborn recently introduced a chilling Halloween-themed augmented reality app, called Gruesome Gotham, which outlines the various vintage murders which have occurred on New York's streets.
Serving as a murderous scavenger hunt, the app uses one's location to reveal a map that outlines various geographically relevant tragedies. For example, if one is standing near Broadway, they will be informed of the infamous shooting of Bill the Butcher, a well known gang member active during the 1820s. The scenes are accompanied by ghostly illustrations and an ominous narrative, which provides valuable insights into the criminals and the victims.
In addition to the augmented reality effects, the app includes a newspaper-inspired "read all about it" section, which enables individuals to gather more information about the crimes.
