Tree-Informed Restaurant Roofs

Group of Architects Create the Metasequoia Grove Restaurant

Chinese studio Group of Architects recently completed the development of the Metasequoia Grove Restaurant in the village of Suzhou, China. Informed by the metasequoia trees that surround the building, the silhouette of the structure is extremely interesting as it is "topped with a canopy made from a series of aluminum pyramidal forms." Metasequoias are also known as 'dawn redwood' and are native to Lichuan county in the Hubei province, China.

Like many contemporary practices, Group of Architects wanted to create a building that seamlessly blended into its natural surroundings and "became a part of the landscape." The pyramidal shapes are definitely one of the more prominent elements that draw in attention and each of them is topped by a skylight that generously illuminates the interior of the Metasequoia Grove Restaurant.
