Bed-Emulating Workstations

The Grafeiphobia Collection Relies on NASA-Based Research

Designed by Geoffrey Pascal, the Grafeiphobia collection features three distinct pieces for workers that prefer to do their job in bed. Each piece in the Grafeiphobia collection is based on the frame of a slatted wood bed, with the different adaptations utilizing foam upholstery to allow the user to work in various positions that emulate lying in various positions. The conception of this collection began when Pascal was studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven and the designer began to analyze his own difficulties working at a desk.

At its core, the Grafeiphobia collection relies on NASA's Neutral Body Position. Developed to help promote health to astronauts in zero-gravity, the Neutral Body Position spreads the user's weight across multiple points over the body. This distinct positioning contrasts typical seated positions, which tend to concentrate force downwards on the lower back.
