The Counterstand and Glow Lamp Grow Herbs Without Soil

The Counterstand and Glow Lamp are indoor hydroponic growing products developed by Lettuce Grow in collaboration with designers Pip Tompkin and Peter Kaltenbach and the team at Pump Studios. The system uses tinted borosilicate glass vessels to grow herbs, leafy greens, and edible flowers without soil or plastic growing containers. Each Counterstand holds a single plant, creating a compact growing format designed for kitchens, dining areas, and living spaces. The glass construction provides visibility into the growing process while maintaining a minimal footprint on countertops and shelves.

The Glow Lamp supports up to three Counterstands and uses a specialized light spectrum designed for plant cultivation. The lighting system is calibrated to provide growing conditions while maintaining a warm appearance suitable for residential interiors. The Counterstand expands the company's indoor growing lineup, which also includes the larger Farmstand and Farmstand Nook systems.

Trend Themes

  1. Design-led Hydroponics — Aesthetic indoor growing systems blend plant cultivation with premium home design, creating room for hydroponic products that function as both food sources and decor objects.
  2. Countertop Micro-gardens — Compact single-plant formats make fresh herbs and greens more accessible in small homes, opening space for modular gardening products tailored to urban kitchens and shared living environments.
  3. Transparent Grow Vessels — Glass-based cultivation containers turn roots and water systems into visible features, suggesting new product experiences centered on education, beauty, and reduced plastic reliance.

Industry Implications

  1. Indoor Agriculture — Residential hydroponic systems are shifting controlled-environment farming into everyday interiors, with potential for smaller, design-forward formats that extend beyond utility-driven grow towers.
  2. Home Decor — Warm lighting, tinted glass, and sculptural plant displays position living produce as a decorative category, expanding how interiors can integrate functional greenery.
  3. Kitchen Appliances — Soil-free countertop growing products sit alongside coffee makers and smart ovens as daily-use kitchen tools, signaling opportunities for appliance brands to enter fresh food production at home.
