Suspended Gap Bridges

The NEY & Partners Cornish Coastline Footbridge Includes a Central Void

The NEY + Partners is a Belgium engineering company that has put together an innovative viaduct located on the Cornish coast that features a suspended gap bridge aesthetic. The bridge has a space located in the centre that takes inspiration from 19th century design while adding modern flair.

The bridge is located between the English mainland offering a connection to the Cornish coastal area for pedestrians to easily access. From afar, the bridge looks like a standard archway suspended between the cliffs. However at closer inspection, the 115-foot steel bridge reveals it is actually made of two separate symmetrical parts that are suspended. The two units nearly touch, leaving a suspended space between the bridges that is maintained through clever engineering and gravitational pull.
