'Framing the Sky' is a house built in Japan by Atelier Tekuto studio. The architects decided on a windowed roof, instead of placing these clear facades on the side of the abode.
The design was done in order to get as much natural light as possible into the house, instead of simply relying on artificial rays. Overall the house is quite slim, and surrounded by other structures on either side, which limits the possibility of having ample windows in the usual places. Atelier Tekuto realized these limits, and adjusted their plans perfectly to still make the most of the daylight.
Since the windowed roof is so large, the rays from outside reach all the way down to the bottom of the house, allowing the entire residence to benefit from this design. Photo Credits: designboom, tekuto
