Health-Focused Foster Homes

'Casa Rana' Offers HIV Positive Children a Safe Home

'Casa Rana' isn't the same as other foster homes. Casa Rana is India's only foster home dedicated to providing refuge for HIV positive children. For the fifteen occupants in the home, Casa Rana provides a fun and whimsical space in a small village near Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu.

Bordered by bamboo, the structure stands out with a bright, multi-colored exterior. The charities behind the project, Made in Earth and Terre des Hommes Core Trust, have made Casa Rana the first of many buildings aimed at providing homes for abandoned or orphaned children.

Casa Rana is meant to kick-start a network of buildings and activities for needy communities. The project also aims to use locally sourced materials to construct these buildings, and an overarching effort to revitalize traditional materials and maintain the village's cultural diversity.
