It looks as though a purist and a cubist designer worked together on the Fold Bookcase. This enchanting piece of furniture maintains a lovely uniformity and repetition among its rational and rectilinear forms; however, it embodies a complexity with its bidirectional composition.
Japanese firm Nendo came up with the clever design, handing it over to Conde House to manufacture it in a lovely pale wood. The bookshelf comprises several boxes that are stacked and alternatingly formed by double-length panels. The result of the overlapping assembly of the Fold Bookcase is a unit of many cubbies that face one of two directions, in a back-and-forth configuration. The compartments are actually backless too, and offer an especially fitting storage solution for a dual-purpose space.
