Interactive Leaf-Growing Artworks

Flourish by Camille Utterback Responds to Visitors' Movements

Flourish by Camille Utterback, an artist based in San Francisco, California, is a interactive art installation that grows as people move around it. Outfitted with motion-tracking cameras, the 70-foot long painting boasts leaves that grow and fall depending on where the visitors stand. A stunning creation, it is made up of projected digital images and textures displayed on multiple layers of custom glazed and sandblasted glass.

Specially created for Liberty Mutuals’ headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, Flourish by Camille Utterback also plays with light and shadow beautifully. To balance out of the complex layer of light present throughout the painting, Utterback created shadows by shining white light on sandblasted areas. Vibrant and refreshing, the painting is beautiful to behold.
