Face-Recognizing Social Platforms

Facebook has Acquired 'FacioMetrics' for Its Intraface System

The popularity of Snapchat filters have made facial recognition a priority for many social media companies, and Facebook is getting on board with its acquisition of facial recognition company FacioMetrics. In particular, FacioMetrics' program Intraface seems to be of interest to the social media giant, as the system is an accurate way to automatically recognize the emotions on someone's face.

According to a document provided to TechCrunch, Facebook is planning to one day create a system that can "recognize facial expressions and perform related actions." Though that wording is intentionally vague, it is entirely possible that the acquisition of FacioMetrics signals a step toward Facebook users posting reactions to the things they read based on an algorithm that recognizes their facial expression.
