L.A.'s Emerson College Features a Glazed Curtain Wall Shading System

Los Angeles based architect and designer Thom Mayne of Morphosis has created and designed the Hollywood campus for art school Emerson College. The structure is located in the center of Sunset Boulevard in the entertainment industry and will be home to over 200 undergraduates studying in the creative arts and communication school in Boston.

The exterior building's facade features curved central section that accommodates the staff administration and teaching facilities with surrounding bridges and terraces. "The building is designed to expand the interactive, social aspect of education. We focused on creating with the broader community in mind - both in terms of public space and sustainable design," says Thom Mayne on the theme of the structure.

The building also features glazed walls of curtains that are hidden by a smart shading system that opens and closes to respond to changes in temperature, sun and light.
