Subtly Sundered Stables

The El Galeno Stable is an Open Air Horse Depot

Horse stables typically have a relatively traditional design aesthetic, but Penafiel & Valdivieso Arquitectos designed El Galeno stables with some creative originality. The horse stable and warehouse is made with four arms that form a sort of offset, oblong X-shape, giving the precious animal occupants a far more pleasant living situation.

The benefit of El Galeno's shape is that it allows the horses in the stable to be more exposed to the natural environment. Stables are often partially or fully enclosed, and while El Galeno certainly still protects the horses from the harsher aspects of the environment, they also better feel the air and see the sun and surroundings. And with a location in the mountainous Chilean region of Paine, those surroundings are worthy of exposure.
