The Velospeeder, developed by German bicycle engineering company Velogical, is a compact e-drive (electric drive) that allows riders to seamlessly switch between regular manual pedaling and electrically assisted riding. The contraption is surprisingly compact and lightweight, weighing less than 3.5 pounds.
The Velospeeder e-drive system consists of dual motors mounted to the seat stays of any traditional bicycle frame. These motors transfer power to the rear wheel via polyurethane rings. The system offers up to 600 watts of power and 29.5 pounds-feet of torque.
Velogical is still in the process of testing and optimizing their e-drive solution and expect to begin distributing next year. The contraption will be sold to bicycle manufacturers and bike shops, but will not be sold directly to consumers.
