Wand-Like Drone Controllers

The 'Typhoon Wizard' Lets Users Drive a Drone with One Hand

Australian electronics company Yuneec is revolutionizing drone control with the launch of the Typhoon Wizard, a "wand" that allows simple one-handed "point to fly" commands.

Despite the incredible advances made in drone technology, the one thing that has remained constant is the dual-joystick controllers favored by experienced and trained pilots. But thanks to the Wizard, instead of needing two thumbs to control roll, pitch, yaw and acceleration, you simply point in the direction that want your machine to fly, and off it goes. Altitude, acceleration and flight mode adjustments can all be made with buttons under the thumb.

The remote also boasts a number of hands-free functions for drone control such as Watch Me (drone stays put, but pivots to follow you), Follow Me (drone moves where you move) and Dynamic Return to Home. Simply clip the Wizard on your backpack or stick it in your pocket and watch the Typhoon follow your every move.

The Typhoon Wizard will soon be available online for about $200. Although fairly expensive for a remote, it's the price to pay for having one-handed intuitive drone controls.
