Tommaso Gecchelin is currently designing a fleet of driverless pods that could transform public and private transportation. For many consumers, a significant portion of the day is spent commuting too and from work. Gecchelin wants to revolutionize the modern commute by making it easier and more efficient to get from one destination to the next.
The driverless pods are part of a project called 'Next,' which aims to create a new source of on-demand transportation. Each of the modular pods features an identical exterior, however the inside can be customized to include different seating arrangements, entertainment systems and even food options. The pods will be able to travel independently or as part of a continuous chain of vehicles. The ability to provide public or private transportation makes the pods a "futuristic cross between Uber and the city bus."
Although the project is still in the early stages, Gecchelin is aiming have the self-driving pods on the road by 2020.
