The Curon Venosta Bell Tower Is What Remains Of A Flooded WWII City

A man-made lake surrounds the Curon Venosta Bell Tower, the only remaining sign that a town used to sit where Lago di Resia now is. After WWII three lakes were combined in order to create a hydro-electric dam. An unfortunate side-effect of this was the flooding of 163 houses and 1,300 acres of fruit groves.

The Curon Venosta Bell Tower sits in the middle of the lake as a historic monument to the old city. It was restored in 2009 to ensure that it did not meet the same fate that the rest of it parish did. These photos show what a remarkable sight the tower now is. It is a perplexing and alluring sight to see this bell tower stand with only water around it.

The story of the tower and its sublime location make it quite the sight to behold, or take pictures of.
