Neubau Converts a Greenhouse into a STEM Lab for an English School

This contemporary STEM lab project is a great indicator of the demand for more hands-on classes in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at the junior school level. Located in Cambridge, England, the initiative was undertaken by local architecture studio Neubau which converted an existing 1970s greenhouse on the grounds of St Mary's Junior School. Prior to this redevelopment, the space was utilized by the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge as a research space.

The brand new contemporary STEM lab is fully equipped with fold-out computer stations, plywood furnishings, insulation and acoustic panels, an elongated skylight, as well as other modern sensibilities. Through this project, Neubau and its client aimed to "promote the principle of reuse over demolition."
